Summary of the book:
This book is
about the significance of making amendments for our mistakes. Amir and his servant
Hassan have been best friends ever since they were little. Hassan always
stands up or even becomes the scapegoat for his master Amir whenever Amir gets
into troubles.
Living in fear and
guilt for several years, Amir receives a letter from his motherland one day,
asking him to come back and to atone for his actions in the past by saving the
life of his friend’s son.
Being a weak boy
who likes poetry instead of bloodthirsty sports, Amir’s father is not at all
affectionate with him. In a bid to earn his father’s love, he craves winning in
the kite-fighting tournament so as to be the apple of his father’s eye.
During the
fierce competition, he witnesses his friend being raped by a hooligan and has
no guts to stand up for his poor friend. Afterward, war comes to Afghanistan
and Amir flies to California with his dad to start a new life, putting an end
to his friendship with his servant.
I am recemmeding this book because:
I
would like to recommend this book because there are countless things that are
worth to learn from. Students can be inspired to be warriors who will stand up
against unfairness and injustice instead of being cowards. They can also learn
some useful vocabularies and expressions which help improve their English
standards.
My favorite part of the book :
My favorite part of the
book is when Amir asks his father about ‘sin’, his father replies ‘Theft is the
only sin. Every other sin is a variation of theft. When you kill a man, you
steal a life. When you tell a lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth. When
you cheat, you steal the right to fairness.’ It reminds me the importance of
being honest, humble and kind-hearted.
